10lb Tay Salmon

Mr David Gardiner landed this fine 10lb springer from the Steps Pool on a Vision 110 this morning. Well done David.

Rumours are rife throught the Tay that the Burnmouth beat in Stanley are still killing all the Springers they catch. The only difference this year is that beat owner Mike Smith is not posting the catches on Fishtay and the speculation is that they have had over 50 so far, all in the freezer awaiting the smokehouse!
If these rumours are true then it's a disgrace that they are getting away with it especially as every other beat on the Tay is making every effort to ensure that the Spring run increases in strengh in the future.
It boils the blood to think that all these fine fish are being ruthlessly despatched. Lets be honest, who can eat that much smoked Salmon?
Let your feelings be known please.
There is a Tay District Salmon Fisheries Board open annual meeting in the Birnam Institute on Tuesday 25th March at 18.45
All are welcome to this meeting to hear about the work of the Board and ask questions.

Hardy Jet SINTRIX

I had the good fortune to try out the new Hardy Jet SINTRIX 15ft 10 wt double hander today.
I tried it with a Rio iFlight Skagit, 30ft of T17 and a copper tube and it coped well.
Then tried the Rio AFS Hover, 10ft fast tip and an Alu. tube and it was excellent.
Next was the new Rio Scandi, again with a 10ft fast on it and the Alu. tube. Once again it was flying out.
It also handled a 65ft Spey line with a floating tip and a tube with ease.
Seems to me like an excellent all rounder and i thoroughly enjoyed casting it. Its light and feels more supple than the Zenith.
I will be adding one to the collection.
Thanks to Ian Gordon, speyonline.com and his very able assistant Tom Brown for leaving the rod with me for a few days..
Cheers
